5x5: Fascinators

SHI

If you don't know what Fascinators are yet you will soon.  Fascinators or "fascies" are those lil' fancy hats and feather confections many of the ladies at Will and Kate's wedding were wearing.  Maybe you got up early to watch, maybe you couldn't care less?  Regardless, this 5x5 gal is impressed with the prevalence of crazy stuff chicks are walking around with on their heads.  I started making little feather fascinators at Christmas for my gal pals, I didn't know that's what they were called at the time but still thought they were pretty much the most fun and sophisticated thing I could think of putting on my head.

The Duchess of Cambridge now an official HRH in a fun "fascie."  Good ol' Katey here has really made this style popular. Here she's left her hair down and clipped this crazy looking thing to the front of her head.  I love it.

Princesses Eugene and Beatrice, Fergie's kids, at the royal wedding sporting some wild head gear.  Fascinating indeed!

This chick knows how to go all out.  Gloves, polka dots, and this Carmen Miranda head piece.  The dude beside her knows it's cool.

Posh and Beck's at the royal wedding.  Posh was wearing a dress from her own line, and this wild lil top hat lookin' fascinator.  You gotta hand it to the lady, preggers as can be lookin' bangin in a dress she designed herself.

Here's a simple little clip I made for myself using some feathers, a piece of felt for the base and affixed to a hair clip.

So what are you waiting for? Go pin something crazy to your head!

Fun!

Lots of Love,

5x5: A Haute Mess

So I was cruzing around the "bloggersphere"  and bumped into this rad chick.

5x5 loves kick ass chicks who get 'er done and Miss Niki Blasini, author of A Haute Mess is doing just that.

Based in Vancouver, Miss Niki describes her style as shameless.  This chicky gets free clothes, posses all cute and edgy on railway tracks and takes pictures of her rad outfits, adding descriptions to help other chicks emulate her fun styles.

Miss Niki is a 5x5 girl if I've ever seen one!  Check'er out.

Loves ya,

5x5: Fashion for Real People

RA RA

I like naked chicks.

But when I saw this particular naked chick in Vision Magazine's Be My Rock Goddess, I did not like it.

Fashion should be about real people--not just dressing up girls to be used as masturbation material.

If you want a shoot with a rock goddess, why don't you try using a real rocker?

Putting a guitar on a naked girl and sticking a cigarette in her mouth--nope, I don't buy it. That guitar is wearing the girl, she's got no power chick vibe at all!

Here's a real girl rocker--HotKid's Shiloh Harrison. 5x5 Clothing is all about real people--don't fake it, ya know, be who you really are, not a victim of society's notions of what women should be like or what fashion is; claim the right to be real!

Thanks, just wanted to clear the difference.

5x5 Welcomes the 1930s, anytime!

LOLA

I’m starting to think that, in a past life,  I must have been alive in the 1930s (and at some point in Jamaica since I always want reggae music in my life, but that's a whole new blog that you’ll have to wait for).

Now where was I... oh yeah... I’m totally drawn to 1930s fashion and  I’m happy to see a lot of 2011's spring trends are starting to have some of the 1930s vibes!

Excited?!?! Fuck yeah!!

What dolls! [above] How can you not be excited to slip into everything?  Those high wasted shorts fit like a glove, but yet she still looks like a lady--could empower any woman!

Gorgeous!  Not only is the hat tailored to fit, but so is the super cute skirt-suit.

And how charming is that shirt?  The sewn in bow tie is to die for.  I'm going to rock this in my every day life, what inspiration.

Believe it or not, this is a newspaper ad for a wedding dress.

Cate Blanchett’s Oscar dress from this year totally mimicked these square-cut flap sleeves.

I would love to have it made in a teal silk, add a super vintage starched out lace and have the bow in purple with quilted hot pink thread.  Now that’s a party dress!

From day to night, these ladies are the “dream babe team”!

It may have been during the Great Depression, but these ladies still found the time to look their best.

Bravo!

5X5: the new 555

RA RA

RIP 555

Introducing 5x5 Clothing!!!

It was a passionate love affair.

Promises of the future. Declarations of undying love. Hot exchanges in the bedroom.

But like many mad lovers, 555 Clothing has been wrenched from our hearts.

You see, we knew about that OTHER rich and famous clothing company that we can't even bring ourselves to utter the name of; suffice to say that they dominated the heart and mind of our 555 lover--so much so, that if they knew we were lovin' on their 555, only problems would ensue in the future.

So, we had to break up with 555.

But have no fear, we have met a lover that is far more hot, more smart and more wild.

5X5 Clothing.

5X5 keeps all the sexy notions about love and clothing that we had before: 5X5 Clothing is a 5 Canadian girl design team with clothing hand made in Thailand, with small exclusive runs for you. Made by real people for real lovers.

Watch this space for our Summer launch! We can't wait to show it off!
